Maqam Ibrahim (The Site of Abraham)

The stone on which our father Abraham stood while building the Ka'ba is known as (Maqam Ibrahim) or (The standing place of Abraham). That stone rose as the building rose. Ibn Kathir, in interpreting the verse: "And take, [O believers], from the standing place of Abraham a place of prayer." Said: "The standing place is the stone whereon Abraham (PBUH) stood to build the Ka'ba. When the wall rose, Ismail came to him with that stone for his to stand up on. He handles to stones to him and he puts them in place with his hands to raise the wall. Once he completed one side he moved to the other, made circumambulation around the Ka'ba, while standing thereon. Once he finished a wall, he moved to the next side, and so forth, until he completed all walls of the Ka'ba. His footprints were apparent thereon, and the Arabs, prior to Islam, knew that. Also, Muslims realized that.
